Beware of wolves in sheep’s clothing!
We are all very familiar with the warning that we should recognize this person and exercise caution when dealing with them. While they pretend to be kind-hearted, easy-going, and congenial, they are not to be trusted (to say the least) and can threaten your well-being.
On the other hand, we should be equally discerning of the person appearing to be a wolf in sheep’s clothing as well. The sheep in wolf’s clothing is quite different from the wolf in sheep’s clothing, in that they pose as someone with a rough exterior, while all along they are very gentle and kind beneath the surface.
Let me explain…
Remember Kevin’s old, grumpy neighbor in the movie Home Alone? It only took an impromptu conversation with him to realize that he was really a kind man who was suffering from a broken relationship with his son. In the end, he rescued Kevin from the bandits and reconciled with his son.
Cutting through the spiky, tough skin of a pineapple will bring us into the juicy, sweet core of a fruit that is refreshing and more appealing than its outer appearance suggests. Such can be the case with people also. That neighbor, coworker, or even that motorist or stranger on the street whose demeanor resembles a wolf’s, might just be gentle (or hurting) soul underneath. Perhaps it’ll take a conversation or a kind gesture to expose the tenderness inside that is longing to escape from a place that you might be able to bring them out of.
Until then, trust that the Fruit of the Spirit within you can be what it takes to release the true spirit of sweetness in them!
