Daughters are Different

If we take the time to read the fine print, we will see that girls are made of more than just Sugar & Spice and Everything Nice. Girls are bite-sized ladies pushing baby dolls around until they grow big enough to fit a husband into their stroller!

In the initial stages of development, a girl seems to cleave to mom as she learns how to understand herself and how she relates to other girls. Once “Her-mones” kick in, her attention shifts—even in an inconspicuous way—to observing the mannerisms of boys through the examples played out before her by her dad. This is another reason why a father’s presence in the home is so important. What she sees in his virtues or shortcomings could make all the difference between settling in with a healthy relationship or settling for a toxic one.

The emphasis is on faithful dads/husbands in the home so that young men will naturally follow suit. However, girls mimicking mom’s patterns and observing dad’s examples will not only be in a better position to contribute to a strong family unit, but she will also have a sharper eye for the type of man she wants by her side.

We do not live in a perfect world, but we can strive to repair the decaying values which have assaulted the fabric of family life as we once knew it. In time, the benefits of improved family living can extend beyond the walls of our own domains and cause the domino effect to reverse into an upright and uplifting position.
